Sean’s practice is mostly in the Supreme Court of NSW, at first instance and on appeal; the Federal Court of Australia and in other courts and tribunals, including three final appeals in the High Court of Australia. He regularly attends mediations.

Before coming to the Bar, Sean was employed by the NSW Aboriginal Land Council (1994 – 1999), working on land and native title claims, cultural heritage protection and community projects as well as lobbying on legislation and policy. In 1999, Sean was admitted to practice and was a solicitor at Horowitz & Bilinsky until 2001, working in general litigation. From 2001-2004, Sean was a solicitor at Kemp Strang Lawyers, working in commercial litigation and on judicial review cases.

Sean has served on the NSW Bar Association’s Education Committee since 2017 and on its Accessibility Panel since 2019. He has been an advocacy coach at the Bar Practice Course since 2012. Sean was an organiser of, and presenter at, the NSW Bar Association’s Practice Management Course in 2020/2021 and 2022 and gave a presentation at UNSW Edge’s Property Intensive in March 2022 with Lucinda Cooper-Hackman on Aboriginal Heritage and conveyancing.

Sean has served on Basketball Australia’s Integrity Panel since 2021 and on the board of Shore School since 2017. He is the Chair of University Chambers’ Readers and Recruitment Committee.

Sean attended Shore School in North Sydney on an academic scholarship. While resident at the University of Sydney’s St Paul’s College, Sean was Sportsman of the Year in 1990. During that year, he was also awarded a University Blue in basketball after being selected in the All Australian Universities basketball team.
